Oscar 2014: 86th Academy Awards

The Big Show of 2014 took place on March 2nd. Yes, The 86th Academy Awards ceremony was presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles. TV's personality Ellen DeGeneres, for the 2nd time hosted the show. Earlier she appeared on 79th ceremony in 2007 but this time, this Oscar was most watched among all.

Let's take a look at the events in detail.

Best Picture nominations: The Wolf of Wall Street, Nebraska, Her, Gravity, Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips, American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave

And the winner was: 12 Years A Slave

Best Director nominations: Steve McQueen/ 12 Years A Slave, Martin Scorsese/ The Wolf of Wall Street, David O Russell/ American Hustle, Alfonso Cuaron/ Gravity, Alexander Payne/ Nebraska

And the winner was: Alfonso Cuaron

Best Actor nominations: Leonardo DiCaprio/ The Wolf of Wall Street, Matthew McConaughey/ Dallas Buyers Club, Bruce Dern/ Nebraska, Christian Bale/ American Hustle, Chiwtel Ejiofer/ 12 Years A Slave

And the winner was: Matthew McConaughey

Best Actress nominations: Judi Dench/ Philomena, Sandra Bullock/ Gravity, Cate Blanchett/ Blue Jasmine, Meryl Streep/ August: Osage County, Amy Adams/ American Hustle

And the winner was: Cate Blanchett

Best actor in supporting role nominations: Jared Leto/ Dallas Buyers Club, Michael Fassbenda/ 12 Years A Slave, Jonah Hill/ The Wolf of Wall Street, Bradley Cooper/ American Hustle, Bankhad Abdi/ Captain Phillips

Best actress in supporting role nominations: Lupita Nyong'o/ 12 Years A Slave, Sally Hawkins/ Blue Jasmine, June Squibb/ Nebraska, Jennifer Lawrence/ American Hustle, Julia Roberts/ August: Osage County

Best animation film nominations: Frozen/ The Wind Rises/ The Croods/Ernest & Celestine/ Despicable Man 2

Best foreign film nominations: The Great Beauty/ Omar/ The Missing Picture/ The Hunt/ Broken Circle Breakdown

And the winner was: The Great Beauty

While the show had full of glitz and glamour as notable personality came on stage for presenting. Some names were: Anne Hathaway, Jim Carrey, Naomi Watts, Harrison Ford, Emma Watson, Zac Efron, Kate Hudson, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Whoopi Goldberg, John Travolta, Jessica Biel, Robert DeNiro, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie, Will Smith and many others.

American Hustle & Gravity bagged 10 Nominations, however Gravity bagged 7 awards. Apart from Best Director's award, Gravity got awarded for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing (Glenn Freemantle), Best Original Score (Steven Price), Best Film Editing (Alfonso Cuaron, Mark Sanger), Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). 12 Years A Slave also bagged award for Best Adopted Screenplay. Best Original Screenplay award went to the movie Her. Helium was awarded for Best Live Action Short Film (Anders Walter, Kim Magnusson) Mr Hublot was awarded with Best Animated Short Film. The Great Gatsby was awarded with 2 awards: Best Production Design and Best Costume Design (Catherine Martin). Frozen's song Let It Go was awarded for Best Original Song. Dallas Buyers Club bagged award for Best Makeup & Hairstyling (Adruitha Lee, Robin Matthews). Award for Best Documentary short film went to The Lady in Number 6:Music saved My Life and Award for Best Documentary feature film went to 20 feet from Stardom.

The show was also in-sync with some great performances. Pharrell Williams performed on Happy from Despicable Man 2. Karen O with Ezra Koeing performed on "the moon song" from the movie "Her". U2 also moved the audience with "Ordinary Love" from "Mandela: Long walk to Freedom". Bette Midler came on with "wind beneath my wings" from "Beaches" and Pink rocked with "Over the Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz". The show also marked with the annual In Memorium tribute, which was presented by actress Glenn and the tribute concluded with Bette Midler's performance.

Apart from few controversies involving a song and few other thing, the show was really remarkable! This time approx more than 43 million viewers watched the show and now I have huge list to watch few movies as I was not able to watch earlier. So my time starts to catch the new buzz and you guys must watch all these movies!!
